What can you find in MANE-Heritage?
This series of reports will focus on the historical and cultural heritage of Amay, Engis, Modave, and Nandrin. In doing so, we will go back in time from protohistory (the history of peoples without writing but who are mentioned in the writings of contemporary historians or chroniclers, mainly Greek and Roman), the Roman period, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and Modern Times.
For each of these periods, we will highlight what this micro-region has in terms of buildings or evidence of contemporary know-how and society. Each report will be accompanied by a suggestion for a ten-kilometer walk, as well as places to eat and stay.
But what else is on?
We will slowly go back in time, starting with the most distant age: the Paleolithic. Each age covered will first be briefly presented in a video, then will be discussed from several aspects, often corresponding to different remarkable places scattered in our region, or a bit further away.
In addition to the illustrative video, you can go and experience these places, thanks to walks of about ten kilometres, which you can download on your smartphone or tablet to guide you. The notable points are illustrated by one or more photos and a short explanatory text. A nature guide will draw your attention to a particular plant or environment. These walks are proposed, tested by the author of these lines. The difficulties and dangers will be pointed out. Nevertheless, the author declines all responsibility in case of falls, injuries, or accidents while using these routes.
Finally, to enhance your visit with us, we suggest a friendly place to eat for two, with family, or with friends, and, should your stay be extended, we can also recommend a gîte for you.
